Sobre a canção

Em Erotica, Madonna encarnava Dita, personagem baseada na atriz Dita Parlo e em seu papel no filme L'Atalante de 1934. Dita é uma dominatrix de inspiração sadomasoquista, sedutora e muito decidida, ela nos convida a entrar no mundo do sexo livre e sem (pré) conceitos morais.

Na música, Dita fala rouca, sussurra e geme, nos versos, a voz grave dá lugar à voz delicada de soprano. A parte instrumental é rica, uma sobreposição de camadas sonoras, ruídos e samples da música Jungle Boogie do Kool And The Gang.

O videoclipe

O videoclipe foi filmado em Super-8, tem uma imagem "antiga", gasta e cheia de ruídos. Nele, Madonna encarna diversas personagens e está envolvida em situações sexuais variadas. O videoclipe tem ainda convidados famosos, como Naomi Campbell, Isabella Rosselinie o hoje esquecido rapper Vanilla Ice.

Mais tarde descobriu-se que as imagens do vídeo foram filmadas durante as sessões fotográficas para o livro Sex, lançado pouco tempo depois. Há um vídeo Sex, com quase uma hora de duração, como uma versão estendida do videoclipe. Como música de fundo, ouvem-se antigas canções francesas. Erotica não chegou a ser banido como aconteceu com Justify My Love, mas foi exibido pouquíssimas vezes, somente depois da meia-noite.
